TURKISH ARCHITECTURE HISTORY

"Turkish Architeture History" is an undergraduage compulsory course in the programme of Department of Architecture in Istanbul Technical University Architecture Faculty.

Course Title: Turkish Architecture History  - Türk Mimarlığı Tarihi

Course Code in Istanbul Technical University system: MIM 221 and MIM 221 E

Course Instructor: Compulsary courses of architecture history group are given in several classes, number varying in accordance with the semester necessities, both in English and in Turkish. Turkish Architecture History course classes are instructed by Prof. Dr. Ä°lknur Kolay, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aygül Ağır, Asst. Prof. Dr. Gül Cephanecigil, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bilge Ar.

Course Description: Basic knowledge on Anatolian Seljuq architecture and Ottoman architecture

Technical Excursions:

               In Istanbul: Major works of architect Sinan; Åžehzade and Süleymaniye comlexes and Rüstem PaÅŸa Mosque   etc. are visited.

           Other:  Course holds a technical excursion to Edirne, in form of a day trip, to examine early Ottoman buildings and Selimiye Mosque every semester. In spring semester Edirne excursion is expanded over the weekend with a journey through the old Ottoman trade route to the Balkans, making stops at certain bridges and other building complexes designed by architect Sinan.

In accordance with the decisions of the semester course may also hold other technical excursions to important centers of Anatolian Seljuq era such as Alanya, Konya, DivriÄŸi, caravanserais etc. or other early Ottoman political centers than Edirne such as Bursa and Ä°znik.
